[edit]Hi crats', FYI Ratekreel's RfA seems to have completed its course and voting should now be closed. signed, Aafi (talk) 15:21, 27 January 2025 (UTC)

Request for TA
[edit]Hello. I’d like to request translation admin rights on Commons. I've been translating quite a bit lately on Commons and other projects. I’m familiar with how the Translate extension works, I know its documentation, and I know how to properly mark pages for translation. I’d like to help with marking pages for translation, and I also see that there are some pages that contain tags but are unmarked, so I would like to help with that. Thank you for your consideration. Best regards, BZPN (talk) 18:03, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Would you like to add some background regarding your plwiki block log? Krd 08:11, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- @BZPN: Could you please also show a few examples of translation markup that you have done so far? Perhaps a few diffs. signed, Aafi (talk) 09:21, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Aafi: Usually, it is enough to prepare one page, and in my case it is mw:User:BZPN/Example (yes, I put the translation units <-- T:X --> on purpose to show that I know how the PageTranslation works; I know that normally this is done using a special page). If you would like me to tag a specific page, please include its title. BZPN (talk) 09:46, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- @BZPN, no. T-unit marker numbers are automatically added by the Extension, and you need not to add them manually. Given our internationalisation guidelines, I'd perhaps want you to prepare a sample page on your own. ─ Aafī on Mobile (talk) 10:58, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- also, we don't wrap bulk of text (particularly those in tables/lists) in one unit. Each line needs its separate wrap. A blank line between two paragraphs also automatically separates the unit. So all of these generic paragraphs don't need separate translate wraps, a single pair works. ─ Aafī on Mobile (talk) 11:01, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- Ah yes, I should mark individual points separately. That's right. BZPN (talk) 11:05, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- I know that the extension adds T-units automatically, but my goal was simply to demonstrate my understanding of the extension. After all, I clearly stated above that I did it on purpose, because I know that it normally happens automatically. However, if you prefer, I can prepare a new page without manually adding them. Let me know if this is necessary. BZPN (talk) 11:03, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- As for m:Meta:Internationalization guidelines: wrapping the heading itself is a common practice. The above page may show otherwise, but there is nothing wrong with it. This makes it more convenient and clear to translate using Special:Translate. BZPN (talk) 11:28, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- Please prepare another page and show your understanding of the translation markups. Wrapping the heading itself will act allow it to act as an anchor for referencing, though not necessary, it is strongly encouraged to include the heading. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 13:47, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Minorax: then please provide a specific title or create a test page to make the test more reliable and objective :). BZPN (talk) 13:50, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 in Qatar seems ok to use. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 14:25, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- Sure, Done, @Minorax. I hope this is enough :). BZPN (talk) 15:53, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- well, I am not satisfied, although you appear to know some basics. I did some cleanup here. However I'd agree if @Minorax says otherwise. signed, Aafi (talk) 18:17, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I don't fully understand your division of translations (I would just do it differently); as for external links, it's a bit different here (I treat the use of <tvar> slightly differently). BZPN (talk) 18:24, 2 February 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose Does not seem to understand of not having a huge chunk of text within a translation unit and did not use <tvar> for variables that would not need to be translated, such as external links. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 12:47, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- I withdraw my nomination then. BZPN (talk) 12:50, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
Request for translation administrator
[edit]I’d like to be able to mark pages for translation after editing them, such as Help:Gadget-ACDC. I’m not the biggest translation expert, but I think I’ve worked enough with the translate extension, including both editing translatable pages (example edit) and also translation admin’ing some pages on WMDE’s internal wiki, to know my way around it :) Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 19:50, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- Can you please provide a more recent example instead? Much has changed since 2020. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 13:20, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- How about 2022? (I’ve made a fair amount of other edits on Commons, so I’m not sure how to find other edits with translation syntax that I’ve done unless I happen to remember one later.) Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 20:00, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
- good for me. All the best! ─ Aafī on Mobile (talk) 20:16, 3 February 2025 (UTC)
